Íslandsþari Awarded Grant from the Rannís Technology Development Fund

Íslandsþari has received a grant from the Rannís Technology Development Fund for its development project “Processing of Bioactive Compounds from Large Brown Seaweed.” The project is one of 69 selected from 480 applications in the fund’s spring allocation.

The project aims to develop a new method for extracting bioactive compounds from brown seaweed for use in health-related products and other high-value applications. It is grounded in the company’s long-term vision to create value from Icelandic seaweed through sustainable practices.

“This grant is an important recognition of the work we’ve put into research and development in recent years. It enables us to take the next steps in developing valuable and natural products from Icelandic seaweed. Chemical analysis of the seaweed has shown that it contains valuable compounds that offer opportunities to increase value creation and promote full utilization of the biomass,” says Sigþóra Brynja Kristjánsdóttir, Head of Research and Development at Íslandsþari.

The grant marks a significant milestone in the continued growth of Íslandsþari and strengthens the company’s position as a pioneer in its field. With support from the Technology Development Fund, the company is well-positioned to enhance its competitiveness and lay the foundation for sustainable value creation in the future.
